"Connections" in the Simplified Editor

What are Connections?

Connections are how we join elements like lists or tables that span across a page break or columns on the same page. If any element is unnecessarily split, like across a page break or column, we need to make sure they are combined in the accessible PDF.

Connections must be made only after the Page Elements and Reading Order are finalized.

What types of page elements need to be "Connected"?

The following elements need connections established so that they are tagged correctly in the accessible PDF:

  1. Lists that span multiple columns but are on the same page.
  2. Lists, tables, or tables of contents that span a page break.

How to make connections

The following articles from our knowledge base outline how to make connections among TOC, Lists, and Tables.

TOC spanning multiple pages (Simplified Editor)

Lists spanning across columns, pages (Simplified Editor)
