When would you want to "Run" PostScript?
- If the PDF document you are trying to remediate has Font Encoding/Unicode Mapping issues you can't to fix.
- If you want to tag pieces of content in a Form XObject but are unable to do so by dragging the content out of the Form XObjext, within Acrobat's Content panel.
WARNING: Saving a Document as PostScript may change the physical view of the document and all interactive elements will be removed (forms, links, etc.).
Update - New in v.5.13: CL PDF now supports tagging content within Form XObjects. If you are running CL PDF v.5.13 or later, you will not need to flatten Form XObjects to tag their content!
How to "Run" PostScript
- With the PDF open in Acrobat, navigate to File.
- Navigate to "Export to" and, in the submenu, choose PostScript.

- Save the PostScript file with a new name so you can tell the original and the PostScript file apart.
- When the PostScript file is saved, open it. The Distiller will run, creating a new PDF.

- Once the Distiller is finished running, you will see "Ready" next to "Progress Status". Close it, and open the PDF. (Also, in the bottom portion of the dialog box, you'll find "End of Job.")

- Compare the newly created PDF with the previous version to ensure the physical view did not change.
