Forms - Redundant Entry (Desktop and Advanced Editor)

Modified on Sat, 14 Jun, 2025 at 10:57 AM

This is a Level A criteria and the requirement is that "information that has previously been entered by, or provided to, the user, that is required to be entered again in the same process is either:

  • auto-populated, or
  • available for the user to select."

(Here is a link to the requirement from the W3C.)

As with some other WCAC requirements, there are some exceptions to this rule.  They are when:

  • re-entering the information is essential,
  • the information is required to ensure the security of the content, or
  • previously entered information is no longer valid.

What CommonLook PDF does:

When running a verification, you'll get a "Passed" status if you have multiple fields with the same text labels and/or fields with the same name.

In these cases, they pass because either 1) the user can copy what's been entered in one field and paste it into another, if needed, or 2) if the fields have the same name, they will automatically populate with the same information.

In all other cases, the fields are not considered redundant and, since there are no redundant fields, the checkpoint is Not Applicable.
