Text Selection & CommonLook Selection (Desktop and Advanced Editor)

Modified on Sat, 14 Jun, 2025 at 10:47 AM

When remediating a document, a user may find it helpful to be able to select page content, such as lines, text characters, or images. These selections are examples of CommonLook Selections and give the user the ability to move, manipulate, and generate new tags with content.  In other situations, a user may find it useful to be able to select, copy, and paste literal text.  These selections are examples of Text Selections and give the user the ability to copy text to be pasted as alternative text, for example. In the following example, a remediator can copy information in a symbol key to be used for alternative text wherever that symbol appears in the document.

To copy text in the physical view to then use as Alternative text follow these steps:

  1. Click the Settings tab and, in the Selection Tool group, choose “Text Selection.”
The Text Selection button in the Selection Tool group in the Settings tab on the ribbon.
  2. In the physical view of the document, highlight the text to copy, right-click (or otherwise open the context menu), and choose “Copy.”

  3. Paste the copied text in the needed location.

Note: When remediating, the default selection tool should be set to "CommonLook Selection," and adjusted whenever the user wants to copy literal document text.
