Error Message: Document is corrupted

When trying to open and use the CommonLook PDF Validator, if you get an error message that says the document is corrupted and the PDF Validator can't open, there are a couple of things you could try in order to fix this.

  • In Acrobat, try deleting the tags in the Tags tree and then adding tags again.  Sometimes this will fix things.
  • Go back to the source file and try to re-create the PDF again.  Perhaps, if your authoring tool has multiple ways to export a tagged PDF, and you used one way the first time, try a different method.
  • If you have CommonLook PDF (the remediation software) try running that.  CommonLook PDF has a tool built into it that automatically fixes a lot of corruption issues, behind the scenes, as it's opening.
  • Send the PDF to CommonLook.  We can take a look at it and possibly "debug" it for you so that you can test it.  Use the support@commonlook.com email address, include the PDF, and a description of the issue (you're getting a corruption error when trying to use the PDF Validator).
