PDF/UA Standard Errors
Issue
When testing a document against the PDF/UA standard, verification may return an error stating: "An Optional Content Configuration entry does not define the Name entry."
Symptom
After running an Accessibility validation against PDF/UA, the Results panel shows a Failed result with the message "An Optional Content Configuration entry does not define the Name entry."
Causes
Optional Content Configurations (OCGs) can be technical, but at their core this error simply means the document has an Optional Content Configuration entry that is missing its required Name entry, which PDF/UA requires.
Affected Users
Assistive technology (AT) users generally, since PDF/UA structural requirements — including properly defined Optional Content Configurations — help ensure the document is interpreted correctly by AT.
Accessibility Guidelines
- PDF/UA (ISO 14289-1)
Resolution Steps
- Locate the "An Optional Content Configuration entry does not define the Name entry" result in the verification Results panel.
- Select "Fix" to launch the Fix Wizard for this error.
- In the dialog box that appears, enter a name. (Note: The name can be anything you want it to be.)
- Click "Finish."
Verification
Re-run the PDF/UA validation and confirm the "An Optional Content Configuration entry does not define the Name entry" result no longer appears as a Failed result.
