Determining Table Types (Desktop and Advanced Editor)

There are essentially two types of tables in PDF documents:

  1. Presentation Tables: tables that were used simply to assist with layout and formatting. When you find a table tag in a tags tree, but the highlighted material in the physical view does not appear to be a traditional table, it is very likely that table functionality was used as a way to format the material, resulting in an inaccurate table tag.  For more information refer to this article titled,  "Remediating Presentation Tables."

  2. Data Tables: tables with header and data cells that convey relationships and information.  For more information refer to this article titled, "Tagging a Data Table."
